Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has been praised for the “raw” and “honest” interview she gave on ITV’s Harry and Meghan: An African Journey documentary on Sunday night.

The wife of Prince Harry , 38, spoke openly to Tom Bradby on the behind-the-scenes documentary of her and Harry’s 10-day Royal Tour of Africa that they made with their four-month-old son Archie in October.

Towards the end of the hour-long film, the former actress told Bradby the effects of being scrutinised as part of being in the public eye as a member of the royal family.

Sharing on life in the spotlight, she said: “I’ve said for a long time to H – that’s what I call him – it’s not enough to just survive something, right?”

“That’s not the point of life. You’ve got to thrive, you’ve got to feel happy.”

She also revealed her hopes, as she later discussed: “I would hope that the world will get to the point where you just see us as a couple who are in love.”

“I don’t wake up everyday and see us as anything other than being who I’ve always been. I’m Meghan and I married this incredible man. This to me is just part of our love story.”

Proving she is a doting mother and wife, she added: “The good thing is I’ve got my baby and I’ve got my husband and they’re the best.”

The Duchess’ candid chat led to viewers rushing to social media to commend her appearance on the documentary.

One penned: “This full chat with Tom and Meghan is so raw. A remarkable, intelligent, compassionate woman who deserves absolutely none of this abuse. Listen to her, how can anyone even try and justify it?#HarryAndMeghan.”

Another agreed: “That interview was extremely raw and hit me straight in the feels… #HarryAndMeghan.”

“Wow!! Such raw interviews from both Meghan and Harry… it doesn’t matter who you are, what your status is or if you have wealth/privilege behind you… No one has the right to invalidate your feelings #itsoknottobeok #HarryAndMeghan,” added another.

An appreciative viewer shared: “It’s not often you hear from members of the Royal Family in that open and honest and frank way. Now you have.”
